what is a healthy heart rate?
Cliff C asked:
I have a heart rate of 58 (at 20) and my dad has a heart rate at 48 (at the age of 48) but we both jog regularly. I'm just worried as I hear that below 50 is dangerous although when my dad had his check up, the doctor checked his pulse at 48 among other things and said he was healthy. Also there's no history of heart problems.
Which is it?

the normal heart rate is 60-100. Having a slower heart rate isn't a bad thing if it is a normal occurence…some of like, your marathon runners and such, have resting heart rates around like mid 30's or so. It's crazy but its normal. Now, if your normal heart rate is like mid 80's and all the sudden it's like 20 and you feel like your about to die…that's when its a problem
50-80 bpm (resting) is normal in general. If you work out or exercise regularly, it could be lower. The slower it is, the more efficient the heart is.
It's definitely healthy to have a pulse 0. Low pulse rates associated with someone who exercises a lot and is in good shape is a good thing.
That is a normal heartbeat for an athlete. The exercise increased the efficiency of the heart so it doesn't have to beat as hard.
People who are not athletes beats are 68-80 per minute.
Since he has been to the doctor and had it checked out, don't worry.
normal heart rate is between 60-100. 50 or 48 can be normal if you are athletes, or doing a lot of exercise regularly, it means that your heart is very strong and it can give large cardiac output so it doesn't need to beat faster. in general i think it is healthier than normal heart, take care
